Janet R. Sherk, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, PA entered into eternal rest at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on April 14, 2022. Born April 12, 1928, near Scotland, Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Henry and Mary (Zimmerman) Lehman. Janet attended Mechanicsburg High School for two years and completed high school at the academy at Messiah Bible College (now Messiah University). She graduated from the two year program at the college where she sang in the college ladies quartet. She completed college at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. Janet was a public school teacher and taught third grade at the Rice Building in the South Middleton School District. She retired in 1984. On June 16, 1951, she was married to Morris N. Sherk in the old Alumni Auditorium at Messiah College. They were married for 70 years. Janet was a member of the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church for the greater part of her life. She taught the Sunday School Class for young married couples for over twenty years. She was a member of the Commission on the Home and served on various committees and sang in the choir. She and her husband served for twenty years as a deacon couple. In 1997 Janet and her husband began attending the Grantham Brethren in Christ Church. They served one term as deacons and sang in the choir. Janet was a past member of the Lodging Committee at the Roxbury Holiness Camp. She served as a chair of the Board for Brotherhood Concerns of the Allegheny Conference of the Brethren in Christ Church and as a member of the Peace Team of the Susquehanna Conference. Janet volunteered at Ten Thousand Villages for twelve years. Janet loved to travel. In 1973 she went to Africa with a group of Brethren in Christ members to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of Brethren in Christ Missions. With her husband she took a Caribbean cruise and made nine overseas voyages visiting thirty countries. Janet was preceded in death by a baby brother Charles Lehman and her only sister Anna Mae (Gerald) Wenger. In addition to her husband of 70 years, she is survived by two daughters, Maryann (Ray) Brubaker of Mechanicsburg, Marcia Ann (Jeff) Poe of Shippensburg; son Curtis Michael of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Dalton) McDiffitt, Jay Brubaker, Derek Poe and partner Elizabeth Behler and Katie (Tim) Clever; four great-grandchildren, Kara and Aedan McDiffitt and Ryker and Lily Grace Clever. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Grantham Brethren in Christ Church. Viewing will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral services.
