Janet Feist Churchill, 90, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2022.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Summerville Presbyterian Church.
Janet was born April 7, 1932, in Staten Island, NY, the second daughter of Bernhard and Mae Cotter Feist. Following the death of her parents in 1940, she and her sister, Joan Feist, joined the family of her aunt and uncle, Louise and William Worth, and her cousins William Worth, Jr., and Robert Worth.
Janet graduated from New Dorp High School in 1949 and the New Jersey College for Women in 1953. While in college, she met her husband, David Churchill, who was a student at Rutgers University. They were married for 59 wonderful years until Dave's death in 2013.
Janet taught school in New Jersey and Virginia and later worked for the Florence, SC YMCA and the American Cancer Society. The Rutgers Alumni Club of South Carolina awarded her for 25 years of tireless service, in partnership with the South Carolina student community.
Janet and Dave moved to Summerville in 1996 and joined Summerville Presbyterian Church. Janet loved the church and the relationships she formed there. She was a proud recipient of the Presbyterian Women Lifetime Service award. She spent many happy mornings playing bridge with her friends. She and Dave enjoyed playing golf together. Janet was a voracious reader, especially of mysteries. She looked forward each year to vacations with her family at the Hanover Seaside Club in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Janet will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Glenn (Lisa Cameron) Churchill of Mount Pleasant, SC; daughter, Ellen Smith Carney of Summerville, SC; and granddaughters, Christine Smith (Hunter) Conley of Summerville, SC, and Samantha Smith of Summerville, SC. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her grandson, Cotter Smith, and two sons-in-law, Spencer Smith and Lamar Carney.
Memorials may be made to Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 South Laurel Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
