Jane Daniel Dye, a native of Blackstone, Virginia, died peacefully in Williamsburg, Virginia, on January 14, 2021, at the age of 86. Born on November 11, 1934, to Sterling Rial Daniel and Virginia West Daniel, Jane grew up in Blackstone and graduated from Blackstone High School in 1952. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree at Lynchburg College and later a master's degree in education from Wright State University in Ohio. She taught mathematics for many years at Wilmington (Ohio) High School and Southern State Community College. In retirement Jane lived in Nags Head, North Carolina, and later Williamsburg, while also returning to Blackstone frequently to spend time with her mother, friends, and family. Jane is survived by two children, Charlene Mires, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Charles (Cathy) Mires, of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Ross Mires, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Nina Mires, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Nicholas Mires of Raleigh, North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Mires, of Milwaukee; her brother, Thomas Daniel of Concord, North Carolina; aunt Nellie Hawthorne of North Chesterfield, Virginia; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding her in death were her father and mother; stepfather Horace Orange; and sister Patsy Mann. In accordance with Jane's wishes, interment will be private in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackstone. Memorial contributions may be made to any organization of the donor's choosing in support of education, horticulture, wildlife conservation, or performing arts.
