Mrs. Jane H. Dunn, of Park Drive, Clinton, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home on March 25, 2022, at the age of 92. In 2018, Jane lost her loving husband of 63 years, William L. Dunn. She is survived by her children and their spouses, William (Joyce) of Farmington; Timothy (Paula) of Nashville, TN; Kathryn Scott (Joseph) of Matunuck, RI; Jeremiah of Clinton; and Cornelius (Cynthia) of Newtown. Jane was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Dunn; her parents, Cornelius and Margaret Healy; and her siblings, Margaret, Francis, Cornelius, Regina, and Joseph. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Born on January 3, 1930, in New Haven, CT, Jane graduated from Hillhouse New Haven High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Bill, in 1954. The newlyweds lived in Indiana, as Bill was in the military and stationed in the Midwest. Jane took the train to Chicago (also known as "Chi-CAR-go") each day to work at a large downtown bank. Many delightful family stories, some of them true, have their origins from these days. In 1960, Bill and Jane purchased their home in Clinton, where they lived for the rest of their lives. The main focus of Jane's life was her family. She doted on her five children and her grandchildren, and it is estimated that over the course of six decades she prepared enough meals to feed the entire Third Army. For many years, Jane worked the evening shift at Chesebrough-Ponds in Clinton, to help make ends meet. It is suspected that she went approximately eight straight years without sleeping. Jane was happiest when her children and grandchildren came to visit. The walls of her home are covered with dozens of family photos. No one was prouder than Jane whenever a family member, for example, scored a touchdown in high school (especially against Madison), graduated from college, or got a promotion at work. A longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox, Notre Dame football, and UConn basketball, Jane loved to watch ball games on television. No one celebrated more enthusiastically, except maybe her husband, when the Red Sox finally won the World Series in 2004.
Jane was a parishioner of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Clinton since the early 1960s. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the church on Saturday, April 23, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call prior to the Mass from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery will be at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane's name to the CRCRF, PO Box 558, Clinton, CT 06413.
