James Andrew "Jim" Whisenant, II entered peacefully into heaven on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the age of 72.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Winnifred Evelyn Carpenter, and father James Andrew Whisenant and his sister Vanita D. Salazar. He is survived by his niece Crystal Nicole Salazar and his many cousins who loved him.
Jim was born in Rio Hondo, Texas on October 3, 1949. He attended school there and graduated from Rio Hondo High School. He worked for the city of Rio Hondo and on the family farm for many years. After his mother and father passed, he came to live with his aunt and uncle, Flora and Norman Whisenant, in Central Texas. They helped him find his forever home at Marbridge in Manchaca, Texas. He was a valued member of the Marbridge Community for over 25 years. He was known as the "gentleman cowboy." He always loved to wear his cowboy hats and cowboy boots and watch Westerns. He was a joy to everyone who knew him there.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. A celebration of life service will be held at Marbridge Chapel in Manchaca at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage those who wish to honor Jim to donate to the Marbridge Foundation. Marbridge is a residential facility for cognitively challenged individuals which has a mission to enable each and every individual fulfill their potential.
