James R. Whipkey, 80, of Westminster, MD, passed away October 24, 2019 at Carroll Hospital Center. He was the son of the late Jay B. Whipkey Sr. and Evalene (Ream) Whipkey and predeceased by sister Doris (Paul) Deeter. Survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Nancy L. Griffith, son Daniel and his wife Faith, daughter Brenda and her husband Paul Berwaldt, granddaughter Brande and her husband Nicholas Mowry, and great-grandchildren Averi and Rowan Mowry. Survived by brother Jay B. Whipkey, Jr. and wife Doris, sisters Delores Holland, Donna Henry, Drucilla (Phil) Martz, and Deborah Speaks. Jim was the owner of Whipkey Garage on his beloved White Horse Mountain property. He was an outstanding auto body technician with people shipping their vehicles to him for restoration from as far away as California. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events and attending NASCAR races with his friend J. Broderick. He loved being Santa for granddaughter Brande and his nieces and nephews, as well as churches and other groups. Everyone that knew him believed he loved his dogs just as much as people. Maybe even more. He had a severe head injury while living on White Horse and later moved near Baltimore for the medical treatment provided there, but nothing ever took the pain away. He endured pain for years without complaint and was diagnosed with Alzheimers. His family honored his request not to have a viewing or service.
