James V. "Capt'n Jim" McMahan Jr, 82, of Bel Air, MD peacefully passed away on April 14. Born in Baltimore to Chief (Emeritus) J. Vaughan McMahan Sr and Selena McMahan, nee Pickett, he is survived by his sister, Pauline P. Tyndall; son, James V. McMahan III and daughter-in-law, Jennifer McMahan; daughter, Rev. Betsy Diann McMahan; stepson, Sean Edmund Coffey; grandchildren Carlyn Anita McMahan and James V. (Jack) McMahan IV; and his lady, Patricia Welk Wolf.
Veteran, radio personality, county councilman, town commissioner, volunteer firefighter, police officer, and lifelong learner, Capt'n Jim's service to military and veteran organizations and his local community spanned decades. He loved his country and above all else, wanted to be remembered as a patriot.
Visitation on Friday, April 30, from 4 - 8 PM, followed by memorial service on Saturday, May 1, 11 AM, at Bel Air United Methodist Church, 21 Linwood Avenue, Bel Air, MD 21014. COVID-19 protocols for social distancing and mask wearing will be in place.
