James Milton Thompson, born September 28, 1928 in Holden Mass to Charles Howard Thompson and Mary Agnes (Wheeler) Thompson died peacefully at his home on February 5, 2021.
Jim (James) served proudly in the United States Army from 1946-1948.
After the service he was employed in various jobs and retired from Cone Blanchard of Windsor Vt in 1990.
He married Betty Ann (Smith) of Charlestown, NH in 1988.
Jim and Betty lived on Sanibel Island and in Fort Myers, Florida for many years. Jim loved the warmth and sunshine. He was able to enjoy his hobby of flying small engine airplanes year-round. He found pleasure in attending the theatre and playing cards with many friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, making clocks and birdhouses among many other items.
Jim and Betty traveled extensively throughout the United States in their camping van and covered all 50 states and all of the Canadian provinces. In their retirement they also had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, parts of the Caribbean, and South America.
In 2017 Jim and Betty returned to Charlestown NH to be nearer their families.
The surviving family includes his loving wife, Betty; his stepdaughter Catherine (Bruce) Boedtker, Brownsville, VT; two daughters Deborah (Alan) Cort, Amherst NH and Pamela (Phillip) Darrow, Blandford, MA; stepson Scott (Cheryl) Hill of Paxton, MA and son Charles Thompson, Santa Barbara, CA.; nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Jim was pre-deceased by his siblings; Margaret Wheeler Thompson Valiton, Gladys Thompson Bowers, Beatrice Thompson Brooks, and infant brother Charles Howard Thompson, Jr.
A private burial for family and close friends will be held in the spring at Hope Hill Cemetery in North Charlestown NH.
