James A. "Jim" Smith, age 80 of Greenwood, DE, passed away at home on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was born on January 5, 1942, in Bath, ME, son of the late Donald S. and Ruth (Bailey) Smith.
Mr. Smith married the love of his life, Carolyn (Harper) Smith on October 9, 1975, in Monticello, ME, and they were sealed in a temple in Washington, DC on August 10, 1976. He worked as a truck driver for many years.
Mr. Smith had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and various games with his family, watching TV, and watching his grandchildren's sport events including soccer, parkour, and ballet. Mr. Smith was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, and he truly enjoyed spending time with his family, and friends. He was loved by many and will be deeply and genuinely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by his brother, Richard Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn H. Smith of Greenwood, DE; his children: Joshua J. Smith (Cassandra) of Westminster, CO, Sariah M. Ritts (Samuel) of Greenwood, DE, and Melissa Fields (Fentress) of Harrington, DE; his grandchildren: James M. and Morgan J. Smith of Westminster, CO, and Kaitlyn R. and Andrew R. Ritts of Greenwood, DE; his sister, Carol Mulloy (Kenneth) and children, of Topsham, ME; his sister-in-law, Peggy Betch of Henderson, MD; his brother -in-law, John Betch of Henderson, MD; his nephews: Michael Smith (Portia) and their children, of Smyrna, DE; Ryan Smith (Christa) and their children, of Henderson, MD; and Jarrod Harper (Jennifer) and their children, of Rutland, Vermont.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nylon Blvd. at Fleetwood Drive, Seaford, DE 19973, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Bridgeville Cemetery, Market and Laws Streets, Bridgeville, DE 19933.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville, DE.
