James Kawin Schwarz, 86 of Hilton Head Island died August 18, 2021 at MUSC in Charleston.
Born in Evanston, Il in 1935, Jim graduated from Michigan State University and joined Charles C. Kawin Company as a Chemist and Metallurgist where he would become President. Jim spent most of his adult life in Crystal Lake, Il where he was an active member of the community including serving on the School District Board, President of Crystal Lake Country Club and as an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Jim and Mary retired to Sea Pines in 2005 and quickly made a home there. Active members of Holy Family Catholic Church, Jim was a regular volunteer at the religious articles shop among other duties.
An avid golfer, Jim was affectionately called "Former Junior Champ" by those who knew him well. His love for golf extended into many philanthropic efforts. Jim was the Chairman of the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund NFL Golf tournament as well as Chairman of the Friendship House Pro Am for many years.
Jim was also a lifelong bridge player and even learned how to play online in the last years of his life.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary, their sons Philip (Janet), Michael (Tami), James Jr. (Nancy), and Paul (Stacey); their daughters Suzanne, Molly and Nancy (Greg); their fourteen grandchildren Sarah, Amanda, Suzanne, Zachary, Andrew, Annabelle, Emma, Grace, Mia, Sophia, Carly, Olivia, David, Lillian and three great grandchildren Charlie, Mazie and Peyton.
A funeral service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday August 28 at 10:00 a.m. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting https://www.keithfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Tee of the Lowcountry, or a non-profit of the donor's choice.
