entered into eternal rest on Thursday, the 25th of August 2022 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence surrounded by his family. He was seventy-six years of age.
James was born in Edinburg, Texas on January 16, 1946, son of the late Paul Frank Schaefer and Eva Mae Shelton Schaefer. He worked for the Xerox Corporation as a technical representative and manager until his retirement after thirty-six years of employment. A veteran of the United States Army, James proudly served from 1966 through 1969. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle and was actively involved in the Mesquite Branch 4-H Club, Mercedes Livestock Show, and the Brownsville Beef Syndicate.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Linda Joyce Schaefer; their sons, James Dale Schaefer, Jr. (Gina) and Robert Douglas Schaefer (Alma); and three granddaughters Lauryn, Lindsy, and Ella.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 31st of August 2022 beginning at ten o'clock in the morning, with a Celebration of Life Service commencing at one o'clock in the afternoon within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Interment with military honors will immediately follow, via an escorted procession, at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 26170 TX-345, San Benito.
