James Stephens "Steve" Scarborough, a resident of Foley, AL, passed away on Friday May 31, 2020 at the age of 84.
He moved to Alabama two years ago. He spent his childhood in Waynesboro, Georgia. James was always known by the name Steve.
Steve was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy Prep School in Franklin, TN. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern College with a Bachelor of Science and Master's in Education. He was a teacher for six years, then went to work at the Georgia Vocation and Rehabilitation Services; and then retired with them as Assistant District Director of Southwest Georgia in Albany, GA. He received many honors and awards for getting grants and cooperative school programs for the handicapped and disabled.
He taught Sunday school for many years. When he retired, he volunteered with food pantries and food distribution. He helped start a backpack program for school children for food on the weekend in Towns County, GA. He his spare time, Steve loved music and dancing, flower gardening and building outdoor flower and stone beds.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Carlton Scarborough and Mary Elizabeth Stephens Scarborough.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Pirkle Scarborough; son, James "Jim" Scarborough (Elizabeth "Beth") of Jasper, GA; step-daughters, Sandy Fralick, Stacey Greene (Edward); and five step-granddaughters and three step-sons; three step-great-granddaughters; and his brother, Leslie Scarborough.
