James Albert Robbins, 87, of Beaumont, died peacefully in his home, Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1933, in Merryville, Louisiana, to George Robbins and Jewell Mahan Robbins. In 1954, James married the love of his life, Shirley Roblow Robbins, and they lived and raised their family in Beaumont, Texas.
James, known to many of his friends as 'Robbie', was President of Korect Builders, a mom-and-pop company, founded in 1968. Along with his partner, R. F. Fisher, Korect Builders built many projects and changed the landscape in the Golden Triangle area. After Mr. Fisher's retirement in 1989, James, along with his wife, and son, Bill, kept the company running and thriving. Most notable projects included the Tri Supply Stores in both the Beaumont and Conroe areas. James retired in 2004 as a well-respected businessman in the community. Never needing acknowledgement for his many achievements, he worked hard to successfully provide a wonderful life for his loving wife and three children.
During his life, James enjoyed hunting, raising horses, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. From building a beach cabin in the early 1960's to ultimately having a lake house on Sam Rayburn, James and Shirley loved entertaining. Many memorable days were shared hosting Christmas parties, fish fries, and crawfish boils for their families. They always enjoyed having people around, always welcoming a new face. James loved telling stories about his childhood and the many chapters of his life. He was a good friend and mentor to many who knew him. Known as 'Papaw" to his grandkids and great grandkids, he genuinely enjoyed and loved the time he got to share with each one of them. We will all miss him.
James was proceeded in death by his parents, George Robbins and Jewell Mahan Robbins Spears; his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Robbins; daughter, Christy Robbins; sisters, Billie Deland and Lea Hebel; and brother, George Robbins, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Ronda Jones of Beaumont; son, Bill Robbins of Lumberton; daughter-in-love, Wendy Robbins of Lumberton; grandchildren, Josh Jones and wife, Lynne, of Copperas Cove; Jeremiah Jones and Crystal Hardee of Beaumont; Carli Lamb and husband, Blaine, of Lumberton; and Cassie Robbins of Nederland; sister-in-law, Pauline Tanner of Beaumont; and brother-in-law, Morris Duhon of Lake Charles.
