James Richard Brunson was born December 26, 1957 in San Angelo, Texas to Jim and Jo "Sweet Pea" Brunson. He went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 1, 2022. Growing up James had red hair and the attitude to match. His mama spanked him every morning when he woke up just to get it out of the way for the day. James had the best work ethic that he learned from working on the ranch with his grandfather Fate Brunson. He would practice that work ethic working in the oilfield and his entire life, and passed it onto everyone he met, until the day he died. Bull riding became a passion of his that was started way back when he was in junior high and continued into his last days. James had his only son Bryan August 16, 1982. Bryan brought so much joy to his life. There was never a day James didn't think about Bryan. Through even the hardest times, Bryan brought so much happiness to his father's life. In 1985, James' world was turned upside down when he lost his younger brother. For two years following his brother's death, James struggled until he found the Lord in 1987. He then started his relationship with God. He has been telling everyone he met about Jesus ever since. His biggest goals in life was to find the lost and hurting and show them the love of Christ with his words and actions.Over the years James gained bonus children Cody, Lisa, Heather, and Danielle, who have remained special to him. James started his full time ministry in 2015 devoting his full attention to bringing people to Jesus. Part of his ministry was the Kairos Prison Ministry and Emmaus, which he continued to actively participate in. A wild personality and a few wrong turns led James into a life that resulted in time in jail, but those experiences would one day be the sort of thing that made him so relatable to others he interacted with during his time serving the Lord. In May 2019 James married the one he lovingly referred to as "the love of his life." She was, as he loved to say, the person he searched for all of his life and the answer to all of his prayers. He then also took on more bonus children; Jennifer, Casey Maree, and Stetson. James took so much pride in all of his kids and grandkids. He loved them more than words could ever express. In October 2019 James started the Robert Lee Cowboy Church. He wanted to come back to the communities he was raised in and share the great news and Word of Christ. James never met a stranger and his love for others changed so many lives for the better. He loved with an incomparable love and forgave those who wronged him. He was in the process of remodeling Sue Ann's childhood home to be a home for the two of them, when the Lord called him home. He would say that he could fix anything but a broken heart but Sue Ann will tell you that he somehow did even that for her. James left so much unfinished work, but his greatest goal was to tell the world about Jesus.
