James L. Poliquin "Jim", 89, passed away, May 4, 2022 at his home in Raymond, NH after a period of declining health. He was born April 28, 1933 in Epping, NH, son of the late Alfred T and Georgianna (Lanois) Poliquin.
Jim grew up in Epping, NH and was one of thirteen children in the family. He graduated from Watson Academy in Epping before enlisting into the United States Army. He served honorably from 1955-1957 and was discharged at the rank of SP2. Shortly after, Jim served on the Auxiliary Police for Haverhill, MA. Jim was married to Sybil Hutchins Poliquin and they shared four children together raising them in Plaistow, NH. Professionally, Jim initially worked at National Shoe and Leather. Then he worked several years at the Epping Garage for Norman Grimes and Regan Ford, Haverhill, MA as a mechanic before accepting employment with Girroir Bros in Merrimac, MA. Jim was their mechanic and yard boss for 24 years and often ran the business if the owner was away. After a successful move and set up of Man A La Mancha touring theatre staging, he was offered a full time job to be the move technician for this theatre group. Having a young family, Jim turned that down. Due to an injury at work, Jim retired shortly after Girroir closed in the mid 80's.
From 1960 until December 31, 1988, Jim played lead guitar in several country music bands. He was a very talented musician owning as many as 14 guitars. Jim has always been a faithful servant of the Lord. Initially, he was a Communicant of Mary Mother of the Church in Newton, NH where he was sacristan, a member of the choir, and would fill in playing organ when needed. After moving to Raymond, he became a longtime devoted Communicant at St. Joseph Church in Epping, NH. At St. Joe's, Jim was a lector, sacristan which duties included the training and managing the altar servers. He was a longtime eucharistic minister and would visit with the sick and serve the bread and wine to the residents at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont for over 30 years. He would also travel to the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH where he would say the eucharistic prayers to the residents when the pastor was unavailable.
On June 13, 1998, Jim married Constance (Ruggeri) Malvey. They were longtime residents of Raymond, NH. Jim was always available to help his family and friends in any way his many skills and talents could be used. He was a very selfless man and put his whole heart and soul into doing things right the first time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Constance "Connie" Poliquin, son, Daniel J. Poliquin, son, Roy J. Poliquin, son, Jonathan J. Poliquin, daughter, Wylene A. Poliquin, four stepchildren, Karen Pisz, Lauren Hurson, James Malvey, K.C. Cucchi, their spouses Lenka, Lynn, Lori, Eric, Gerard, Tanya, Michael, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, Alice "Mae" Mailhot and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 10:00-11:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, 200 Pleasant St., Epping, NH.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated and follow on Tuesday at 11:30 AM at the church. Masks are preferred for attendance at funeral.
Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping, NH with military honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
