Funeral Services for Mr. James Osborne "Jim" Martin, 80, who entered into rest February 16, 2021, will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Posey Funeral Directors Facebook page. Graveside Services will be conducted following the service at 2 o'clock in the Blackville Cemetery, Blackville, SC with Rev. Roy Kiser and Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Those in attendance are required to wear a mask and social distancing will be practiced.
Mr. Martin was born in Blackville, SC to the late Nicholas Valentine Martin, Sr. and Mary Ulela "Lela" Osborne Martin. He was a 1958 graduate of Blackville High School, a 1962 graduate of the University of South Carolina and he received his Masters in Education from Western Carolina University. Mr. Martin began his distinguished career in education as a teacher at Salley High School and Aiken High School. He later became the principal at Paul Knox Elementary and North Augusta High School. Mr. Martin retired as Area II Superintendent in Aiken County in 1995 and in 1997 became the Headmaster of Mead Hall Episcopal School for several years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he was a deacon, taught Sunday school and served on the personnel and finance committees. Mr. Martin had a servant's heart and enjoyed volunteering his time with The Gideons International and served as trustee of the Paul Knox Educational Endowment for 17 years, while serving the last five years as Chairman. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews as their beloved Uncle Jimmy or "UJ". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Judson Martin and Nicholas Valentine Martin, Jr.; a niece, Cynthia Dawn Martin; and a cousin, Daniel O. Stoudemire.
Survivors include two nephews, Charles J. "Chip" (Dwayne Gray-Martin) Martin, Christopher M. (Jan) Martin; four nieces, Camille M. (Bernie) Maull, Jennifer Anderson, Mary Jessica (Latonya D. Henry) Martin, Nikki Lynne Martin; great-nieces and nephews, Jacob DeGrace, Jordan Martin, Cale Martin, Carter James Martin, Blake Maull, Brittany Maull, Johnathan Anderson, Leighanne Martin, Madison Knox, Ty Martin; a sister-in-law, Carole M. Martin.
Pallbearers will be Johnathan Anderson, Blake Maull, Ty Martin, Carter James Martin, Bill Morgan and Charlie Miller.
The family would like to express special thanks to Mr. Martin's beloved caregivers, Shameika Crawford, Latoya Carter, Melissa Ealy and Annette Smith.
