James B. Oliver Sr., 93, went peacefully home to be with the Lord February 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Inez, KY to the late William and Ressie (Hammonds) Oliver and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber with over 40 years of service.
James was a lifetime member of both Wedgewood United Methodist Church and the Mogadore Moose, and will be deeply missed.
James was married to his first wife, Carol, for 50 years, until her death in 2000. Later in life he married his childhood sweetheart, Vicie, who also preceded him in death, along with his son, James Jr.; brothers, Tim, Clarence and infant George; and sisters-in-law, Elsie, Bea and Marilyn. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Cooper, Lori (Julie) Oliver and Pam (Steve) Varga; daughter-in-law, Cindy; grandchildren, Michael (Christina), Kelly (Harold), Alex, Nick (Amanda), Casey, Sean and Ellen; great-grandchildren, Ally, Noah and Carly; brothers, Clyde and Johnny (Mary); his beloved step-children and step=grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice and Pastor Joe Burkhardt.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Dr., Akron, OH 44312 with Pastor Joe Burkhardt and Chaplain David Harstine officiating. Calling hours will be at church for two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. with burial at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wedgewood Building Fund or Southern Care Hospice.
