James "Jim" Charles Nichols, 72, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas. Jim was born on December 23, 1948, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Geraldine Violet Gilliland Nichols and James Burrell Nichols, Jr.
In 1953, Jim and his family, the "Four J's," moved from Albion, Michigan to Beaumont where he attended Eugene Field Elementary, James Bowie Junior High and graduated in 1967 from French High School. After graduation, Jim attended Sam Houston State in Huntsville. During the height of the Vietnam War, Jim and several friends enlisted in the United States Marine Reserves and were stationed at Fort Ord in California. After returning to Beaumont, he enrolled in Lamar State College studying business.
In 1955, his parents started Nichols Tile Sales where he worked for many years. An avid lover of nature, Jim enjoyed fishing, walks in the woods and birds. Jim will forever be remembered by his quick wit and infectious smile. A fan of politics, he had not missed a Rush Limbaugh show in twenty years. He kept up with the weather and could tell you what the weather was going to be today, tomorrow, and a week from now.
Jim is survived by his only sibling, Jadeanne Joy Nichols Hayes and her husband, Jeffrey Lynn Hayes; his wife, Maggie Nichols all of Beaumont; three stepsons, Jorge Isaac Arias, Samuel Alberto Arias and Jorge Alberto Arias, all of Honduras; niece, Kelli Kathryn Hayes Trevino and her husband, Paul Trevino; nephews, James Kyle Hayes and his wife, Ann Perkins Hayes and Jason Roy Hunter Hayes, and his wife Janice Mazzoli Hayes, all of Beaumont. Jim was also blessed to have many great nieces and nephews that adored him, James Jeffrey Trevino, William Jordan Reese, IV, Mary-Caroline Trevino, David Carroll Perkins Reese, Anne Kathryn Trevino, Lauren Grace Hayes, Walker O'Hara Reese, William Huston Hayes, James Jeffrey Harrison Hayes and Elizabeth James Trevino.
He is preceded in death by one day by his only child, Abigail Violet Nichols and his parents Jerry and Jim Nichols.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, under the direction of Broussard's Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont, Texas.
The family asks that masks be worn graveside and social distancing guidelines are observed at all times.
