James R. Neel 78, a longtime resident of Bonita Bay in Bonita Springs, FL died August 11, 2021 in Bonita Springs after a short illness. He was born in Marion, VA to James B. and Eloise Pratt Neel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Parker Neel also of Bonita Springs; his daughter, Susan Neel Olson (Mark) of Tampa, FL, his son, John C. "Jack" Neel (Paige) of Clarendon Hills, Illinois and four grandchildren, Charles Olson, William Olson, Reese Neel and Rafferty Neel. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Charles E. Parker, III of Carlisle, MA and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas G. and Susan P. Thomson of Fort Myers, FL and six nephews and nieces.
He was commonly known as "DicK" Neel to friends and family and Jim to clients and colleagues. He spent his formative years in Muskegon, Michigan and as an adult working in the Chicago area and living in Naperville.
Dick graduated from Michigan State University in 1965 (BA in Economics) and 1966 (MBA in Finance) and served as a Naval Officer from 1967-1971. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.
He began his career at Continental Illinois Bank in Chicago and made later stops at Brown Bros. Harriman, Loomis Sayles, and Kemper Financial before moving to Naples, FL as manager of Brown Bros. Harriman Naples office and then Bessemer Trust Naples office.
In 2003 Dick co-founded Aviance Capital Partners LLC, a Naples-based financial planning firm and investment portfolio managers for private clients where he remained managing partner until a short time before his death.
Mr. Neel was a Chartered Financial Analyst. He was an active volunteer and board member of the Naples Players. He was a loving son, husband, father, uncle and grandparent. He was a Republican, Spartan, golfer and an officer and gentleman. He was a true and generous friend of many.
