James F. Mooring passed away on April 8, 2022 at his home in Kerrville, TX. James was born in Houston to Robert Fletcher Mooring and Jimmie Wilkinson Mooring. James was raised in the Houston Heights and graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1947. He soon joined the US Navy and served in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Sennet SS408. His time was extended due to the Korean Conflict and he was in Korean waters aboard the USS Princeton CV37. Back in Houston he worked for Pan Geo Atlas Corp (PGAC) as their manager of the Nuclear Engineering Department. In 1967, James founded Smith Air, Inc. During his career he was twice President of the Houston Air Cargo Association, President of the Houston Customhouse Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and a member of the board for several years. He served twenty years on the board of directors of the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America. James was a hard worker and provided exemplary effort to build a successful business. The business continues today through the next generation, James' daughter Jackie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jimmie Wilkinson Mooring, his brothers Jack and Joe Mooring. He is survived by his wife Betty Lou, daughters Jackie Mooring (Mike Hilton), Jamie Brunette (Mark), grandchildren Dominique Mooring (Jenny), Kurt Brunette, Cole Brunette and great grandchildren Fletcher Mooring and Ryker Mooring and numerous other relatives. Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, April 15 at the Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 16 at the Kerrville Funeral Home. Burial services will be Thursday, April 28 at 1:15 PM at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Tierra Linda Volunteer Fire Department, 406 Oak Alley, Kerrville, TX 78028.
