James (Jim) Shelby Miller died June 7, 2020, in Johns Creek, GA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on November 8, 2021 at Parkway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 720 Carl Vinson Parkway in Warner Robins, GA. Jim was born on June 10, 1935, in Marion, South Carolina. After high school, he joined the US Air Force where he served his country for 30 years in peacetime and wartime postings around the world, including two tours of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. In addition to his military career, he continued serving his country through Civil Service until his retirement. While Jim was stationed in Madrid, Spain, he met his wife Matilde Villalba, and despite language barriers, Jim and Matilde built a wonderful life together and had four children. Jim's years in the service took him and his family to many different locations all around the world and what became "home base" in Warner Robins where he ultimately retired. There he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served with the Christian Service Center and volunteered with the Lions Club in several leadership roles. In addition to his family and country, Jim had three passions - fishing with close friends and rooting for the Atlanta Braves and his favorite NASCAR drivers. Jim is survived by his children James Miller Jr, Irene Savini, Richard Miller, and Steven Miller; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings Jack Miller, Jerry Miller, Brenda Calhoun, Linda Hinson and Doris Ann Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents Grover Cleveland Miller and Grace Rogers Miller, stepmother Gretelle Meggs Miller, and siblings Malcolm Miller and Connie Berry. Jim will be greatly missed, but his legacy and spirit will live on.
