Atkinson, NH - James A McGowan, 79, husband of Roberta N. (Klemiata) McGowan, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's at Derry Center for Rehab and Healthcare in Derry, NH on December 23, 2021.
Born in Medford, he was the son of the late James P. and Katherine D. (Donovan) McGowan. Raised in Somerville, he attended Somerville High School and Malden Catholic High School. He continued his education receiving a Bachelor's Degree from Northeastern University and a Master's Degree from New Hampshire State College. James was employed in collections at Wang Laboratories. James enjoyed bowling, camping, hiking and family pets. When his children were young he coached them in their sports endeavors. He was also a big New England Patriots fan. James was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served in the Army National Guard. Known for his quick wit and humor, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Roberta, he is survived by his children, Stephanie McGowan and her husband William Kyrouz of Beverly; Jennifer St. Jean and her husband Christopher of Atkinson, NH; Elizabeth Busteed and her husband Craig of Derry, NH; and Joseph McGowan and his partner Krysta Ramos of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jason St. Jean, Zachary St. Jean, Alison Kyrouz, Joss Kyrouz, Vincent McGowan, Rhys McGowan, Marley Busteed and Caius Busteed; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William McGowan and sister Katherine Miller.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29 at 10:30AM at St. Anne's Church, 26 Emerson Ave., Hampstead, NH. Burial will be at a later date.
