James Leonard May, "Jim", "Jimmy", 87, of Green, Ohio passed away February 16, 2022 due to complications from bladder cancer. He was a kind, loving husband to his wife, Shirley Browning May as well as a wonderful father to his 3 daughters: Melanie, Pam and Tammy May; grandchildren, Christina, Wesley, and Jeffrey; and great-grandson Riley. Jim was a wonderful friend and step-father to Shirley's daughter, Deb Pompeo (Michael), of Akron; and granddaughters, Kristy Pompeo & Lauren Flores (Alberto); and great-grandson, Alexander Flores of Las Vegas, NV. Jimmy was a beloved brother to Marilyn Tipton and Nancy May. Jim also loved and appreciated his close friends, Ted Mellanock, Joyce Hewitt, and his wonderful church family at Barberton Church of God.
Jim was born in 1934 at People's Hospital (currently, Cleveland Clinic- Akron General Medical Center) to the late Clem & Ann May and grew up in Ellet. He graduated from Hower Vocational High School and afterwards went to work for his uncle, Frank May of Frank May Garage. Uncle Frank encouraged him to become an Electrician. Jim became an Electrician in 1954 and joined the Union IBEW Local 306 in 1955. He worked one year and was then drafted into the Army for 20 months.
After his time in the military, he returned home and married the late Marilyn Sims, the mother of their three daughters. After 3 1/2 years of contracting work, he was hired at Loomis Electric and worked there for 39 years. At the time of his death, he was a 67 year member of IBEW Local 306.
He was also married to the late Gladice Smalley May for 18 years. In 2004, Jim married Shirley Browing May and they have been married 18 years.
Jim wanted to express his gratitude and love to his family, friends, co-workers, and church family for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
Jim will be cremated and inurned in the mausoleum at Greenlawn Cemetery with full military honors on SATURDAY, February 26, 2022 at 1:00pm. Thank you to Cox- McNulty Funeral Home of Barberton, for their assistance, care and professionalism.
