Church service for James E. Layton, age 93, of Enochs, Texas, is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, August 8, 2022 at Missionary Baptist Church in Morton, Texas with Bro. Bruce Cotton of Lubbock, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Enochs Cemetery. J.E. died Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born October 4, 1928 in Crosbyton, Texas to James Walter and Mary Etta (Parker) Layton. He married Wanda Hall in Enochs on January 12, 1957.
J.E. worked his way through Texas Tech University working at the Tech Barn milking cows, earning $0.50 a day. He graduated from Tech with his Bachelor's Degree in 1950. J.E. loved being a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Farmer's Co-op Elevator Board in Muleshoe, Texas. He was also on the school boards for Beulah ISD and 3-Way ISD. J.E. was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton. He is preceded in death by a son, Jarrol; his parents; three sisters, Pearl Mize, Dora Lea Ellison and Annie Lea Layton; and two brothers, J.W. Layton and Harold Layton.
J.E. is survived by his wife, Wanda; his son, Keith Layton and his wife, Julie of Circle Back, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Beverly Layton; his four grandchildren, Lance Layton and his wife, Carli, Allison Maxwell and her husband, Kelsey, Ashley Pool and her husband, Jordon and Lauren Shipley; and his eleven great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Piper, Maddox, Brodi, Sawyer, Layne, Gentry, Jack, Beck, Bowen and Layton.
