View Funeral Webcast James Arthur Keaton, Sr., 94, of Hampton, VA, born March 11, 1927, passed on November 29, 2021. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1970 and later from NASA in the early 1990s. During the Vietnam War, he was recognized for outstanding meritorious service in connection with military operations against a hostile force and earned the Bronze Star. He also received the Army Air Medal for acts of heroism while participating in aerial flights. He was a Freemason, loved fishing/crabbing, photography, studying astronomy, reading, dancing, stargazing through his telescopes, and playing his guitars. He spoke German and was fluent in French. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gearlean, and a daughter. He is survived by nine children, a host of in-laws, 20 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held on December 11, 2021, 11 a.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.
