James "Jim" Earl Spencer, Sr., 76, of Murrells Inlet and formerly of Springfield, IL and Sunbury, PA, passed away on January 11, 2020 at his home. He was born August 9, 1943 in Springfield, IL, a son to the late William R. Spencer, Sr. and Margaret V. Patkes Spencer. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother William of Carbondale, IL.
In life, Jim worked in sales and customer service. He was a life member of East End Hose Co. of Sunbury, PA, a former member of the Northumberland Moose Lodge and the Sunbury Elks Club. He was also selected for America's "Who's Who" for business achievements. In his leisure time, Jim loved doing crossword and sudoku puzzles. He was a master joke teller and had a joke for every occasion. Jim also traveled extensively for business but enjoyed visiting his family and friends the most.
Jim is survived by a large and loving family, including his devoted wife of 54 years, Jane Grissinger Spencer, his daughter Stephanie McKinney and her husband Todd of Sunbury, PA, his son James and his wife Tara of Paxinos, PA, his grandchildren Nicholas and Ashleigh McKinney, Noah, Ryan and Aidan Spencer, his sister Sharon Bollinger of Sunbury, PA as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.
A memorial service will be held in Jim's honor on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home.
A funeral mass will be held 12:00pm Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Monica Church, 109 Market Street, Sunbury, PA 17801. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-12:00pm at the church.
Inurnment will follow at Pomfret Manor Cemetery, 900 Packer Street, Sunbury, PA 17801.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations in Jim's honor be sent to the Amedisys Foundation. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to all of their extended family, their friends in Spring Forest and their neighbors for all of the kindness and care they showed during his illness. They are truly grateful for all of the prayers and concern shown for Jim and his family.
