James Sidney Hunter, born October 7, 1928, in Burlington, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on July 3, 2024, in Pawleys Island, South Carolina surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Robert Eugene Hunter and Gertrude Finger Hunter.
James attended Central High School in Charlotte, NC, and went on to graduate from Davidson College in 1950. At Davidson, he was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and excelled as the pitcher on the baseball team. Following graduation, he served as a Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War from March 1951 to March 1953.
For the majority of his career, James dedicated himself to Westwood Pharmaceuticals, where he served as a district sales manager for 27.5 years. Upon retirement, he continued to contribute his expertise at Person & Covey.
A lifelong member of Saint Martin's Episcopal Church, James was actively involved in various roles including vestry member, lay reader, and Sunday school teacher.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helene Horne Hunter, his daughter Lisa Hinson, and his son Robert Hunter. He is survived by his two daughters, Carole Spivey and Janice Banks, both residing in Pawleys Island, SC, and four grandchildren: Jack Banks, Katherine Spivey Connolly, Charles Spivey, and Sydney Banks. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Nelson.
A memorial service to celebrate James's life will be held on August 17th, 1:00pm at Saint Martin's Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC.
In his memory, donations can be made to The National Association of the Blind, Red Cross, or Salvation Army.
