James William Houpt, Jr., 86, of Port Orange, Florida, died March 20, 2022 at his residence.
Born October 27, 1935 in Mercersburg, PA he was a son of the late James William, Sr., and Mary Ellen Provard Houpt.
James graduated from Greencastle High School, Class of 1953. Following graduation
James attended and graduated from Zion Bible Institute in 1958. Upon graduation he joined
the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
James married Erla Jean Linamen in 1958 and began a ministry of evangelism 4 days later.
In 1959 they became the pastors of the First Foursquare Church of Toledo Ohio
where they served until 1962. They next pastored the Foursquare Church in Lucas Ohio.
While pastoring in Lucas James taught at Mount Vernon Bible College. Following the Lords will
they moved their family to Pa. where they pastored the Muir Foursquare Gospel Church for 14 wonderful years. They last pastored in Decatur Ill, at the Decatur Foursquare Church. While pastoring in Decatur he helped raise money and build a UHF Christian Television Station,
Channel 23.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Erla Jean Linamen Houpt, three brothers, David Houpt, Jerry Houpt, and Bobby Houpt, granddaughter Whitney May, andgreat granddaughter Hannah Owens.
Surviving family include a son Kris Houpt wife Sherry, a daughter Kim Lundstrom husband Don, grandchildren Bethany Owens husband Chance, Aaron May, Kirsten DeVito husband Anthony, Heather May, Taylor Oyola husband Jaime, great grandchildren Hunter Saffran, Liam DeVito, Zoe Oyola, Winsley Owens. Five sisters, Betty Anderson, Amy Rice, Gay Buchanan, Nancy Keefer, and Pam Clay, and a brother Tom Houpt.
Funeral service 11:00 AM Monday March 28, 2022 in Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, with Pastor Josh Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
