James L. Gaskell 12/30/1926 - 6/5/2022
Jim passed to the grace of God quietly at his daughter's home in Pennsylvania on June 5, 2022.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Walter D. and Helen (Knowls) Gaskell of Concord, N.H.; brothers Charles, Owen, Harry, and sisters Bertha, and Edith. He is survived by his sister Merriam Chamberlain of Concord, N.H., his wife Gwendolyn J. Gaskell of Washington, N.H.; and their three children, Donald (Sheryl) Gaskell of Winchester, K.Y., Lawrence (Barbara) Gaskell of Washington, N.H., and Heidi (Charles) Chobot of Milford, P.A.; and six grandchildren, Timothy, Andrew, Margaret, James, Tabitha, Peter; and four great-grandchildren.
Jim was a WW II veteran and served as clerk to Senator S. Bridges (R) N.H. He also went on to serve as the youngest head clerk for the U.S. Senate for nine years.
Jim taught Social Studies and Geography at Winsted, CT. and Concord, N.H. school systems and served as the director of adult education for three years. He was a Scout master and committee chair of BSA Troop 90 in E. Concord for many years.
Jim and Gwen were proprietors of Gaskell's General Store in Washington, N.H., for 19 years. Jim was active in the N.H. Republican Party, Harmony Lodge #38 F&AM, and was a founding member of the Washington Snow Riders and The Washington Historical Society. Jim enjoyed snowmobiling, gardening, camping, reading, and his dogs, but most of all he enjoyed visiting with his family, all his friends, and sharing stories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to the Washington, N.H. Rescue Squad (7 Halfmoon Pond Road, Washington, N.H. 03280) or the Saint Benedict School Center (P.O. Box 1000, Harvard, MA. 01451).
