Help us celebrate James! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember James.
James Austin Flynn, Jr., aged 92, entered eternal life on October 7th, 2022. Jim was born in Torrington, CT on Nov. 8, 1929, to the late James and Marguerite (Balfe) Flynn. Loving husband of the late Ellen (Peltier) Flynn, dear father of James (Colleen) Flynn, Kathleen (Richard) Galbraith, Thomas Flynn (Heather Watson), Robert Flynn, and Christine (Brian) Hickey, cherished grandfather of Cassie, Meaghan, Brady, Rick, Dylan, Logan, and Kellan.Brother of the late Margaret (the late Patrick) Carney and the late Maureen Flynn. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family meant everything to Jim. A man of quiet integrity and strength Jim was consistent in his intent to do and portray what was the right thing to do. Throughout 47 years of marriage, Jim and Ellen provided their children a life built on deep faith, stability, and hard work. He had a profound love and appreciation for his children and grandchildren and proudly shared stories with his close friends, of whom there were many, of the latest progress in each one’s career and family development. He loved being a part of his grandchildren’s lives through lunch outings, Hilton Head ice cream runs and cheering them on from the sidelines of their sporting/activity events.
Jim spent 42 years working with the same company, retiring as a General Directory Sales Manager. The company name changed from Michigan Bell through numerous mergers and transitions to become ATT, but Jim did not change. He was solid in his dedication to the company and his desire to mentor those who worked for him.
During the Korean war, Jim proudly served his country as a Sargent for the United States Army, receiving multiple service medals.
Throughout the years, Jim had many interests. Most memorable might be miles of walking through both Rochester and Venice, a golf game with its unique swing, fantastic travels with Ellen that included hiking, cruising, and exploring amazing places around the world, reading on the crow’s nest during the family’s beloved Hilton Head trip, dinners with the Pot-Luck group, and time spent with the “Brighton Boys”.
Jim Flynn influenced the lives of countless people in a way that is seldom seen. His friends, business associates, and particularly his children and grandchildren were blessed to have had Jim in their lives and they know it. His memory will live on forever through the impact he made.
