James Russell Fickel, 72, of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 15, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born June 21, 1951, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Russell and Eva (Hartzell) Fickel. Jim was the loving husband of Kathi L. (Hoffman) Fickel, with whom he would have celebrated 18 years of marriage in August.
He was a high school graduate and worked in facility maintenance for Dickenson College in Carlisle before retiring after 35 years. He was a "Rail Fanner" who loved trains and photographing them and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He also enjoyed working outdoors in the yard and around the house.
In addition to Kathi, Jim leaves behind his 2 sons, Justin and Brian; his 2 step-daughters, Alyssa Kent and Marianne Crum; his brother, Gary Fickel (Alberta); his 2 sisters, Karen Sherman and Sharon Galbraith; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many extended family; and his beloved dogs, Dudley and Dexter.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, 2PM, at the Shippensburg American Legion Post #223, 100 Dykeman Rd, Shippensburg, PA 17257. Visitation will be from 1PM-2PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way #270, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
