Mr. James F.B. "Jimbo" Whitney, age 65, husband of Anita Pecko Whitney of 3822 Whitmire Hwy., Union, passed away, Sunday, December 25, 2022.
Mr. Whitney was born in Columbia, May 4, 1957, a son of the late William English Whitney and Dorothy Setzler Whitney. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and retired owner of Whitney Asphalt. Jimbo was a former member of Hebron Baptist Church where he was a deacon, building and grounds committee member and usher. Jimbo never met a stranger and was loved by so many. He had a larger than life personality and as he often said "a legend in his own mind".
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Eva W. Stapleton and husband Chris, and their children Cooper and Fendley of Chapin, James F.B. "Bo" Whitney and wife Jordan, and their children, Kennedi and James F.B. Whitney, III of Union, Ann Whitney of Charlotte, NC, and Julia Whitney of the home. He is also survived by his brother, William E. "Billy" Whitney, Jr. and wife Patsy of Union; two nieces, Emily Medlyn and husband Scott and Louisa Farley and husband Dave; a nephew, William E. "Will" Whitney, III and wife Charlie; and a number of great nieces and nephews. Anita was one of nine children, and Jimbo always loved the big family gatherings. He affectionately called the family gatherings "Pecko invasions" and this will be the biggest invasion by far.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Hebron Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Lynn Ford and Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 2:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be David Roper, Joe Reid, Allen Jordan, Hank Holliday, Norris Fowler, Rick Martin, Robert Small, and Phillip Arnold.

The family will be at the home, 3822 Whitmire Hwy., Union.
