James (Jim) Brooks Diver, Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly from Rock Hall, MD and Fort Washington, PA passed suddenly on April 2, 2021.
Born on Leap Year Day, Jim always considered himself a teenager and lived his life to the fullest with family and friends.
Jim, born in Atlantic City, NJ, was the eldest son of Brooks and Gerry Diver of Fort Washington.
Surviving Jim are his wife of 31 years, Patricia (Pat), his daughter Kimberly (Kim) Diver of Middleport, PA, grand children Ben Horner and Laurel Horner and his son Brooks (Roberta) of Lansdale, PA, grandchildren Alexandria, Jacob and Jonathon. Jim is survived by his brother Ed (Lorraine) of Mateo, NC and two nephews Ryan and Kenneth. Jim was also an important member of Pat's family, remembered as a loving brother-in-law, father figure and uncle to her sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews.
Jim's commitment to civil service and the community began very early. He became a volunteer firefighter of the Fort Washington Fire Company while in high school. During his 57 years of service, he was Chief for 3 years, Assistant Chief for 13 years, Administrative Officer for 3 years and an instructor at the Montgomery County Fire School in Norristown for many years. He was recognized as a life member of the fire company in 1986 and continued to mentor many firefighters throughout his service.
Jim's other passion was boating. He owned many boats during his life including up to his passing. In his retirement years he always lived on the water overlooking his boat at his dock. Over the years, he and Pat enjoyed taking boating vacations with family and friends, including bare boating in the Chesapeake and the US and British Virgin Islands. He enjoyed fishing in the Chesapeake Bay and the Florida Gulf.
Memorial Services will be held May 22, 2021, 11:00 am at St. Thomas' Church in Whitemarsh, PA. Following the service a reception for family and friends will be held at the Fort Washington Fire Company. Internment at St. Thomas Episcopal Church Cemetery is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of James Brooks Diver, Jr. may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
