James William Dickerson, 78, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Pasadena, Maryland and Bakerton, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his home.
Born July 7, 1943 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late David Dickerson and Catherine Cameron Dickerson.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church in Pasadena, Maryland, The Roman Catholic Parish of St. James the Greater in Charles Town, West Virginia and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in The Villages, Florida.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Before moving to Florida, Jimmy D, as he was referred to, was very active with many young members of the church in the yearly trip to Webster Springs to practically rebuild some homes, build ramps for the disabled members of the community and any job that needed done. He loved serving his Lord and helping those less fortunate. Once in Florida he became a volunteer with the food pantry.
He is survived by his wife of seventeen and half years, Judith Dickerson; one daughter, Christina Shorter and husband, Glenn; four sons, Craig Dickerson and wife, Jennifer, Keith Dickerson and wife, Kristina, Kenneth Mazer and wife, Laura and Greg Mazer and wife, Elizabeth; seven grandchildren, Ashley Ryan and husband, Matthew, Shane Shorter, Austin Shorter, Grace Dickerson, Grant Dickerson, Tyler Mazer and wife, Rebecca and Jarod Mazer and wife, Cassidy; three great-grandchildern, Piper Gibbons, Emerson and Silas Mazer; two, sisters, Linda Stolba and husband, Ed, Kathleen Bauer and husband, Mike and one brother, Robert Dickerson and wife, Deborah.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Dickerson, and son, Scott Dickerson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 10:00am at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV, with Father George Pucciarelli as the celebrant, assisted by Deacon David Galvin.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 6-8pm at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with a vigil and The Divine Mercy Chaplet at 7:30pm.
Interment will be on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 11:30am at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD.
