James Francis Davey, a resident of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on June 16, at the age of 87. He was the son of the late Admiral Thomas L. and Mrs. Catherine Timpane Davey. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Carmelita (Connie), and by his sister, Catherine.
Jim was born at Parris Island, South Carolina, in 1935, and raised in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Jim attended North Kingstown High School ('53), the University of Rhode Island ('58), and Georgetown Law ('65). While in college, he met and fell in love with his wife of 61 years, Carmelita (Connie) Trigo. Upon marrying in 1960 Jim and Connie moved to the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. where they began long careers of public service and raised their two children.
Jim's career began as an auditor with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but he found his way into federal court administration after law school. In 1970, he became Chief Clerk of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia until his retirement in 1991, overseeing the court through historic trials including Watergate, the Pentagon Papers, and others.
Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kathleen Davey; his daughter and son-in-law Lynn Davey and Benjamin Dudley; his grandchildren, Kelly, Patrick, Ryan and Sean; his older brother, Thomas Davey; his younger brother and sister-in-law, John and Barbara Davey; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim will be remembered for his integrity, endless good humor, and lifelong commitment to adventure and plain fun. A Funeral Mass and burial will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 62 Pleasant Street, West Warwick, RI 02893.
