It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather James Clifton. He passed away peacefully August 2, 2022.
James moved to Port Hueneme via Military duty for the U.S. Navy in the 1960's. In 1971 James married Irene Fisher and they were married for forty-seven years until her death.
They gave of their time and lives to better the lives of others. beside raising their own children, they adopted and became foster parents to many children. James was the first African American to own a full-service gas station (Chevron) here in Oxnard, he was an entrepreneur at heart. James served in many civic organizations Oxnard Lions Club, Gideons of Ventura County, Commander of the Disabled Veterans, member of BAPAC, MLK committee of Ventura County.
James leaves behind his children: Kimberly Frierson of Hamburg, AK; James Chadwick Clifton, Newbury Park, CA, Adrienne (Khrystena) Conyer, Wylie, TX, Elizabeth Clifton, Brooklyn Park, MN and Kimberly Durrette, New Jersey.
There will be a celebration of James' life at Saint Paul Baptist Church 1777 Statham Blvd, Oxnard, CA 93030 on Wednesday August 10, 2022. Viewing will be held at 1:00pm, funeral service begins promptly at 2:00pm. Final Interment Union Springs Cemetery, Corrigan, Texas.
