James E. Cavanaugh, 85, passed away on April 28, 2021 from complications of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The only son of the late Edmund & Ann Cavanaugh, Jim was born on December 30, 1935. He attended high school at St. Gregory in Cincinnati and graduated from the University of Akron in 1963 with a degree in Business Administration. Jim was employed by IBM, the Hoover Co., B&W, and the Albrecht Grocery Co. as a programmer/analyst. After retiring in 1988, Jim took his love of gardening to the next level and became a Master Gardener where he met many new friends and was active in the organization until he was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2008. Jim leaves behind his loving wife Cynthia (Kucko); daughters Karen (David) Whyte and Kathleen Rowan; grandchildren Katie(fiance Sam Horn) & Kyle Whyte & Brady & Evan Rowan; brother-in-law Donald (Peggy) Kucko, sister-in-law Janet Kucko, and brother-in-law Dale Goubeaux, as well as many nieces & nephews. Jim was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he was an adult server. The family wishes to thank all of the doctors, nurses, & staff at Barberton Citizen Hospital for their concern & care during his illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 30, at 1 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church 4019 Manchester Rd. Akron, OH 44319, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
