James F. Bushnell Sr., 85, passed away peacefully at home on May 29th, 2022 following a long illness.
Jim was born in Syracuse, NY to Elton and Frederica (Fischer) Bushnell. His primary education was in Alfred, NY.
He was a graduate of Hobart College and was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. After graduating he entered the family business, Bushnell Nursery of Syracuse and also entered the National Guard. He developed the business as Landscape Contracting, working in large parts of New York State. He was active in local organizations, including the Town of Sullivan and Madison County Parks boards, the Lions Club and the Chittenango School Board.In 1985 he sold the business and relocated to Wellesley Island, where he started a landscape gardening business, retiring in 2015.
Jim had many interests and enjoyed Tennis, sailing, skiing, wood working, vintage cars and of course antique boats and the St. Lawrence River.
Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah and her children, Katie (Matt) McGuire and Jason Wachtl; his son James Jr; and 5 grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Janet Krzykowski.
He was grateful for family and friends and the chance to participate in all the milestones life had to offer. A special thanks to all of his health care providers for excellent care.
