James Webster Bragunier , 70 Dec 9, 1950 - Nov 17, 2021 James Webster Bragunier, 70, of Greencastle, PA, was born December 9, 1950, in Hagerstown, MD died peacefully at his home on November 17, 2021. He was a 1968 graduate of North Hagerstown High School after he served in the United States Army from 1969-1975 where he earned The Expert Marksmanship Badge which came in good use when hunting deer. Jim retired from The Maryland Correctional Training Center in 2001. After retirement he worked with the Hagerstown Police Department, Franklin County Constables and Shepherdstown Police Department.
He was a lifelong member of the Greencastle Sportsman Club, Greencastle Fire and Rescue Company, Greencastle American Legion Post 373, Eagles Club Waynesboro, PA and Silver Saddle Club in Greencastle, PA. He volunteered at the Star Equestrian Center in Cearfoss, MD. He was the owner of Broken B Stables.
He was survived by daughter, Jill Bragunier Stouffer, husband Jason and grandson Evan Reese Stouffer. Siblings Bonita O'Neil (Pittsburgh, PA), Donald (Butch) Bragunier (Hagerstown, MD), Earl Bragunier (Pittsburgh, PA), Bette Jo Shifler (Hagerstown, MD) and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to special friend Arlene Hartley and his faithful companion, his dog Phoenix. Proceeded in death by wife of 50 years Pamela Jean Hissong Bragunier and parents Miller Howard and Olive Marie (Norris) Bragunier.
Jim was known as the horse whisperer. He enjoyed trail riding, dude ranch adventures and training racehorses. He had a hard exterior but a soft spot for all animals. He enjoyed cooking, crabbing, gardening, the Saints football team, and was an avid hunter. Not to mention his love for Cher. In his young days he was a Golden Gloves boxer. He also loved spending time with his grandson ATV riding in the mountain.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 26th at the Blue Heron Events located at 407 South Washington Street, Greencastle, PA. The service will start at 5:00 pm followed by light meal and visiting until 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter in Chambersburg, PA. To honor Jim, please wear an article of camouflage to celebrate his love of hunting.
