James Jarrell Beddows, Jr., fondly known as Jerry, 90, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021. He was born in Dundalk, Maryland where he lived for 79 years. He grew up on Baltimore Avenue and later raised his family and lived in a house on Dundalk Avenue for 50 years. In 2009, he relocated to SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Shrewsbury in Pennsylvania.
James earned a B.S. in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and worked 40 years for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore. Jerry was active in his Masonic Lodge for many years as well as in his former church, St. Luke's Lutheran in Dundalk where he served as president of the congregation several times, he was also active on the church council for over 20 years, and frequently led Bible classes.
Jerry met his wife, Anna Mae Snowden, while attending Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He liked to travel with his family and frequently crossed the United States in a small camping trailer, touching 42 of the 50 states. After retirement, he and Anna Mae visited a variety of European and Asian countries.
Jerry is preceded in his death by his brother Charles, and sister Diane. Jerry is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Beddows and four children: Denise Brandon, Stephanie Garrison, Cheryl Frame and James J. Beddows, III; five grandchildren; two nephews and one niece; and five great grandchildren.
There will be a public viewing from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 E. Main Street, New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. at the church. Please wear a face mask to keep everyone safe. Jerry will be laid to rest in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Shrewsbury following the service.
