James H. Barton passed away July 27, 2024 of lung cancer at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
He was born October 25, 1940 in Clearfield, PA to the late Ralph and Jean Barton. He graduated in 1958 from Clearfield High School and received his BS in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University in 1962. Jim was employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas from September 1962 to June 2001 in Granville, OH, Waxahachie, TX and Newark, OH as a Chemist and Process Engineer.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Charlene (Vogelsong) Barton of Loudon, TN, daughter Jenifer (Gil) Pulliam of Lebanon, OH and grandchildren Derek, Jack and Sarah; sister Judy Narehood of Clearfield, PA (passed away 8/14/2024).; sisters-in-law Carol Adams (Jack) of Poughkeepsie, NY; Margie Dixon (Denny) of Wyoming, DE; and Velva Patrick (Bill) of Johnstown, PA; eight nieces, eight nephews, five great-nieces and twelve great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Karen Barton and Jeffrey Barton; in-laws, Charles and Elaine Vogelsong; brother-in-law, Sid Narehood, a niece, Rebecca Narehood; and a nephew, Micah Patrick; and his grandparents.
In September, 2003 Jim and Charlene retired to Tellico Village where they've enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and beauty of this area of TN by golfing, boating, fishing and volunteering.
Jim was a former member of the Newark, OH Kiwanis Club and then most recently a member of the Tellico Village Kiwanis Club in Loudon, TN. He was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan of Lenoir City from 2009-2021. He was an active member in the churches he attended: First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, TX 1964-1978; First United Methodist Church of Newark, OH 1978-2003; and The Community Church of Tellico Village 2003 to the present.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The Community Church at Tellico Village, 130 Chota Center, Loudon, TN 37774.
