Gary will be most deeply missed by his adoring fur buddies, The Blues Brothers, Elwood & Jake; and our dear friends Edward and Holly.
Gary was born on October 17, 1947, to the late Blanche Regina MacGillis Ascher and the late Robert Joseph Ascher. Gary graduated from Lakewood High School in Cleveland, Ohio and he received his BA in Finance from Cleveland State University. Gary proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gary moved to Atlanta from Cleveland Ohio in the eighties and joined the then Trust Company Bank as a loan officer. After several years in banking, Gary met The Love of His Life Catherine Stanley and together they built one of the Leading Staffing Agencies in Atlanta, working side by side for 37 years. After over 40+ years in Atlanta, Gary and Catherine moved to St. Simons Island, Ga. and opened the Visiting Angels Home Care of Brunswick, and Southeast Ga. One of Gary's greatest joys was serving his fellow veterans and seniors and working to provide the highest quality of home care for all of those in need in his Golden Isles Community.
Gary will be remembered by all who loved him for his wonderful wit and his great sense of humor {MacGillis Genes by way of Blanche}. Gary loved golf and was able to live one of his Bucket List Dreams and played eighteen holes at Pebble Beach. He loved his yearly Labor Day Vacations celebrating life on Hilton Head with his family and dear friends Tony, Ginna, Preston, Nikkole, Heather, Walt, Cecil, Dianne and playing golf and enjoying Gary's famous Low Country Boils under the gazebo at The Island Club overlooking the ocean. So many wonderful memories! Gary loved to cook and entertain, and we will cherish all the Christmases and Special Occasions we all celebrated for many years on Park Lane in Atlanta. We will always fondly remember all our wonderful Thanksgivings in Dublin, Ga. with brother and sister-in law James, Doris Jean & Family, and Gary's Always Perfectly Carved Turkey Bird! Gary also loved his Thursday nights at Bones, for many years, with his Bone Head Buddies and Dear Friends Walter, Preston, David, Gary, and others...so much fun! Gary and Catherine loved to travel when they could, and one of their favorite memories was visiting the home of St. Francis of Assisi in Assisi, Italy, and The Prayer of St. Francis was Gary's favorite. Another of Gary's favorite travels was to the California Wine Country and the wonderful memories at Auberge du Soleil.
Most of all Gary Loved His Lord, His Family & Friends and His Country! Gary was a Veteran, a Conservative, and he was Proud to be an American! We are sure he is now in heaven playing golf, talking politics, and solving the world's problems with his favorite talk show host The Rushbo. As his wife Catherine wrote to him in a poem on his Birthday..."You're Everybody's Go to Man, The One Who Holds Our Trust, The Fox Hole Friend of Legends Past, The Heroes We Once Knew". That is who Gary Ascher was to everyone who had the privilege and honor to know him.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
Gary was a humble man with a servant's heart who Did His Best!
