James Joseph Araujo, age 77, longtime resident of Hollis, NH, died Friday, April 1, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Fall River, MA on May 21, 1944, the son of the late Joseph and Annie (Tavares) Araujo.
Jim grew up and was educated in Warren, Rhode Island schools. He met his wife of 48 years, Carolyn, through a ski club in the White Mountains. He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology and later earned a degree that he was very proud of from Daniel Webster College. Jim worked for Hitchiner Manufacturing for more than thirty years and then continued his career as a quality engineer at Anderson Power Products, retiring in 2010. He participated in the American Society of Quality Control, and locally was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus with the Parish of the Resurrection where he was a longtime congregant.
He loved being a father and grandfather. Many of Jim's happiest days were spent sailing. The family boat, the Vegabond, was kept in Wickford, RI, which was the starting point for trips all over New England including favorite destinations Martha's Vineyard and Long Island Sound. Jim's knowledge of celestial navigation landed him a role in multiple sailing races that traveled from Marion, MA to Bermuda. Jim and Carolyn's shared love of travel took them on many other adventures including Caribbean cruises and trips to European destinations.
Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn Araujo, two daughters, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Philip of Vermont, and Karen Moore and her husband Andrew of Maine, grandchildren Sophia and Ryan Johnson, and Casey and Zachary Moore, a sister, Frances Palazzo, two nieces and several cousins.
