Jacob 'Leroy' Devine was born on August 27, 1930 in Bonneau, South Carolina to the late Jacob and Annie Devine (Nee Green). He departed this life on August 6, 2018 after a brief illness.
He began this life journey as one of ten children of which six survived. Being a member of a large family, he saw a need to help out so he was willing to work at a young age to help with supporting himself and his family. He received his formal education in the Berkeley County Schools showing a strong interest in entrepreneurship and taking courses to hone his skills as a general contractor.
Pop, as he was affectionately called, married at a very young age and from this union six children were born. He moved his family to Philadelphia where he held various jobs but later found his niche when he went to work for Mr. Zuckerman as an apprentice, learning the trade of laying and repairing a hot, asphalt roof. A beautiful relationship developed between them to the extent that his employer begins to look at him as a son.
