George Jackson Hunter, Jr., 76, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Born in Newnan, Georgia, he was the son of the late George Jackson Hunter, Sr. and Kathleen Brown Hunter. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Jacky received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Georgia and a Master's in Accounting from Clemson University. His first position with Anderson County was Elections Commission Director. He served as Anderson County Finance Director for 10 years prior to being elected Anderson County Auditor in 2005, an office he held until his death. He was very active in his professional associations: SC Association of Assessing Officials (SCAAO), former president, Max Rush Award recipient for distinguished service, and currently serving on the executive board; SC Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Tax Collectors (SCATT).
Jacky served on the Piercetown Volunteer Fire Department Board, as Vice-Chairman of the Pelzer Rescue Squad Board, and was a member of the Anderson Lions Club. He was a former member of the Hammond Water Company Board of Directors and real estate broker with Mell Gerard Realty. Jacky was a passionate beef cattle and hay farmer, who was very active in the Anderson County Cattlemen's Association as treasurer. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and church treasurer for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janis Gerrard Hunter; daughter, Traci Elizabeth Hunter; son, Jonathan George Hunter (Kate Marie); two grandsons, Jack Sylas Hunter and Phife Edward Hunter; two brothers, Norman Hunter (Renee) and Donny Hunter (Carolyn); sister, Cheryl Sewell (Harry); mother-in-law, Duane B. Gerrard; and brother-in-law, Neal Gerrard (Mary Anna). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, G. Mell Gerrard.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Central Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, Sanctuary Windows Fund, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
