Jack Wiley Johnson, 78, of Burnet, TX, formerly, of Seminole, TX passed away August 10, 2020. He was born to Ronald and Mildred (Fore) Johnson on September 1, 1941 in Ranger, TX.
Mr. Johnson proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a radio-man aboard the USS Cabildo (LSD-16) during The Vietnam War. Jack was a member of Chapel of the Hills Baptist Church in Buchanan Dam, TX. He married Brenda Sue Smith, her three daughters and one son on March 11, 1982 in Odessa, TX. Jack would often say "that's my girl" when referring to Brenda and they loved to dance every chance they got.
Jack had already raised two daughters and naturally settled into his new role with his young family. He was known by all as Papa Jack. He cherished his family and his favorite chair. He passionately defended his place to sit no matter the size of the culprit, with the small exception of his grandchildren. They were able to infiltrate a territory that no other could.
Jack loved to cook and prepared the family meals for all holiday celebrations. He would Bar-B-Que and fry turkeys but was especially known for his beans. He entered many chili cookoffs and proudly added just enough spice to get everyone's attention.
During an interview for his granddaughter's class project eighteen years ago, Papa Jack highlighted his love of home, football, bowling, fishing, friends and above all, his family. When asked what he would like to see, he stated he wanted to have a girl for his next grandchild (it was a boy), for the Houston Astros play in the World Series, (which they did in 2005 and 2019) and for the prophecy from The Bible of one-hundred years of peace to be fulfilled. The world might not be peaceful, but he taught peace. His gentle and loving character taught his family to strive for peace from within and amongst themselves.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Brenda Johnson, of Burnet, TX, children, Johnna Johnson, of Maui, HI, Jennifer Drinkard, of Odessa, TX, Tammy Gallimore and husband Joel, of Austin, TX, Tracey Nave and husband Jaime, of Seminole, TX, Teresa Patteson, and husband Ronnie, of Midland, TX, Terry Mayo and wife Shanel, of San Diego, CA, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Janiece Anderson, of Lincolnton, NC, Janette Reddell, of Galena Park, TX, Joann Mathis, of Marble Falls, TX, Joyce McConahy and husband Mac, of Kingsland, TX, and dogs Dolly and Tiffany.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers-in-law, Jim Anderson and James Reddell.
