Jack Russell Bell passed away on January 18, 2022 in Woodstock, VT after a period of declining health. He was born on January 30, 1939 in Thomaston, Maine to Roy Bell and Jessie Wilson Bell, he was the youngest of six children. Jack spent his childhood in Thomaston Maine and on the island of Monhegan and graduated from Thomaston High School in 1957. He then enlisted in the Navy and worked as a Radio/Radar operator on the USS Johnston. After his discharge from the Navy Jack moved to Connecticut and went to work at Hartford National Bank. It was there he met Mary Brumm and the two were married on September 4, 1965. The couple had two children Maureen and John (Jackie). They returned to Jack's home state of Maine spending two years in Lewiston and then settling in Bangor where Jack went to work for Merrill Bank where he worked for the next 18 years in a variety of roles eventually becoming an assistant Vice President. During their years in Bangor in addition to his job at the bank Jack was an active volunteer in many organizations serving on multiple boards including the United Way of Penobscot Valley, the Salvation Army of Northern New England Advisory Committee, Bangor Youth Hockey Board of Directors and he was an active volunteer at St. John's Catholic school and church. In 1986 Jack returned to this island of his youth when the couple purchased the Monhegan General Store which they ran together until 2000. They returned to Bangor in 2001 and then in 2018 the couple moved to The Woodstock Terrace Community in Woodstock, VT. Jack loved the Boston Red Socks, fishing and playing cribbage. In his younger years he loved to play baseball, golf and bowl. He was pre-deceased by his father Roy, mother Jessie, siblings Charles, (Julia) Nathalie, Barbara, Roy Jr (Lorraine) and James (Margaret) as well as his wife Mary of 55 years and son John (Jackie). He is survived by daughter Maureen Bell Boardman, her husband Byron of Bradford, VT and grandchildren Meghan and Cameron Boardman; grandchildren Murray and Julia Bell of Las Vegas NV; sister-in-law Fran Hughes and husband Nate of Clinton CT and numerous nieces, especially Judy and Jessie Olson of Cushing ME, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 29, 2022 at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock, VT.
