"J.P." Thompson, Jr was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved others and enjoyed life! "J.P." was the son of the late Jones P. Thompson, Sr. and the late Minnie Blanche Franklin Thompson. He was born May 13, 1932 in Charlotte, NC. He passed away on February 9, 2021.
Upon graduation from Mount Holly High School, "J.P." attended Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC. In 1951, he served in the Naval Reserves, Active Duty until he transferred over to the Inactive Reserves in 1953. He began his career in the trucking industry with Carolina Freight Carriers, later to become terminal manager there. After seventeen years, he became a Salesman for Dixie Trucking. He then went on to become an agent for Western Carloading and started his own trucking companies - Thompson Trucking, Freight Transfer and T and E Leasing. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and the special times he spent with his co-workers. He retired from the trucking business in 1996. J.P. enjoyed his retirement years also. He was a member of Joppa Lodge #530, York Rite, Charlotte Shrine Club and Oasis Shrine. He was an active member of Pine Lakes Country Club. He had many friends everywhere he went and he loved enjoying the times he could spend with them. "J.P." is survived by his son, William David Thompson and daughter-in-law, Dana T. Thompson of Matthews, NC, and daughter-in-law Angie Thompson of Mineral Springs NC. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn "Charlie" Jenkins of Mount Holly. " J.P." had four grandchildren, Christi Thompson Anderson (Ryan), Justin Thompson (Vanessa), Brooke Thompson Crocker (Patrick) and Jessica
Thompson. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Anderson, Savannah Anderson, Caroline Thompson, Luke Anderson and Aubrey Thompson. His family loved him dearly and will miss his wonderful smile and the 'brightness' he always brought to each of them! "J.P." was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Amick Thompson and son, Michael Nolan Thompson. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Taylor, "Sambo" Rumfelt and Lois Whatley. "J.P." believed in God and his country. He was dedicated to his family, his friends, and to his career. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and to family. He was well-liked by everyone who knew him and he was always a man of his word with only the promise of a handshake. In the last years of his life, "J.P." resided at The Little Flower Assisted Living Community in Mint Hill, N.C. He celebrated many wonderful and happy times there as the staff cared for him with kind and genuine love. The family will always be grateful for his wonderful caretakers who showed him endless loving Christian care. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
A private graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in tribute to this wonderful man we loved so very much...
