Ivan Ruther Hubbard died March 28, 2022, at the MidState Medical Center. A resident of the Spice Hill, Wallingford, since 1973. Professor Hubbard was born on January 11, 1930, to Charles O. and Corinne W. Ruther Hubbard, he grew up in Lordship amid a large extended family.
Ivan served as a Combat Medic during the Korean Conflict, a 1st Lieutenant, earning a Bronze Star. A retired veteran in the US Army.
He attended college and worked as a Sales Rep for Johnson & Johnson, then earned his MBA from Columbia University, NY. He then changed careers and taught Economics & Business at Quinnipiac for 33 years, retiring in 1995. Ivan was named Professor Emeritus in 1996. A versatile musician all his life and he was a member of New Haven Musician Union, he sat in with several big bands during their Connecticut stops. He played multiple instruments, favorites being Sax & Flute. After his retirement as a professor, he formed "The Ivan Hubbard Orchestra and Entertainment Services," playing dates around New England and New York, notably 20 years at Yale events. He retired from playing music the year 2015.
In November 2011, Ivan married Gloria Domo, his longtime friend since 1989 with her daughter. He was a perfect gentleman, a great husband to his devoted wife Gloria Gbalekuma-Hubbard and a loving father to his beloved daughter, Corinne Gbalekuma-Hubbard that he left behind. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones.
A Veteran Ceremony and a graveside burial service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Middletown State Veteran Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457 @ 2pm. For online condolences to his family and tribute to Ivan please visit [email protected]
