Iva Lee Alexander, 86, of New Castle and formerly of Shirley passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Heritage House in New Castle. She was born February 23, 1936 in Ruth, KY, a daughter of the late Henry Miles and Wilson Lucy Phelps.
Iva was a member of the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene since 1956 where she enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a lifelong homemaker and avid gardener. In years past, Iva would do sewing, ironing and babysitting for residents of Shirley. Iva's most recent hobbies included being the "Queen of Bingo", playing Rook, Farkle and Uno card games. While living at Addison Place in New Castle, Iva was proud to be the Resident Ambassador. Iva had a heart of gold; everyone that came in contact with her loved her and she had a wonderful laugh.
Iva leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Caroll "Carlie" (Sandy) Alexander of Shirley, Melvin (Nicole) Alexander of Grant City, and Kyle (Gabrielle) Alexander of West Lafayette; grandchildren, Chastity (Scott) Davenport of Indianapolis, Paula Peters of Shirley, Carlie Michelle Alexander of Indianapolis, Brandi (Steve) Alexander of Mooreland , Michael (Serena) Hampton of OH, Violet Alexander and Jeffery Alexander, both of Grant City, Harrison Alexander of West Lafayette; great grandchildren, Jordan and Jared Mills, Austin and Bailey VanHook, Sophi Alexander, Caroline Coomer, Sawyer Alexander, Emma Hampton, Sylvi Alexander, Danielle Peters, and Jackson Hampton; great great granddaughter, Oaklynn Smith; brothers, Ray (Joyce) Phelps and Chester (Ella) Phelps both of Somerset, KY; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins survive.
In addition to her parents, Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Alexander; sons, Allen Mathew Alexander and Jimmy Wade Alexander; sister, Euna Welton; brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Elmer Phelps; grandson, Bill Peters and a great granddaughter, Kaytlyn Hampton.
Services will be at 1:00pm Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until time of service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607.
